I know we gain xp as we travel from place to place, but is there a faster/better way to gain some xp?

not really. If you invest in a brawler NPC you can fight him during your flight and that will earn you some extra xp, but its not that much and you will lose health as you fight..

brawlings been broken for a year <.<
best i can think of is get a crafting kit and make keycards as you travel
